Service Description

In our death-denying culture, it's hard to get information about how to prepare for death and dying. Many are given a diagnosis of terminal illness, but no road map regarding what to expect, except the array of medical interventions designed to prolong life. With no road map, we find ourselves lost and powerless to make our own decisions. Often, when all treatments have been tried and the disease relentlessly progresses, we don't have the energy or the time left to plan. This course is designed to give patients and their caregivers this road map in a safe and informative way to can find out how to navigate and access services from now until the end of life. INFORMATION IS POWER! The sessions will be facilitated by a physician and a guest speaker followed by and opportunity for questions and answers by the audience. Topics will include: How do I financially plan for end of life? What services can support me? Conversations with a social worker. What do funeral homes offer? How will I be treated after I die? What are options other than cremation? Conversations with a funeral director What is a death doula, why would I need one?Conversations with a death doula - Leaving a Legacy - Conversations with a Dignity Therapist What is a palliative team? - Conversations about local home care services Can I get more energy? Conversations about energy strategies Why can't I eat? Conversations about appetite/ Why can't I breathe? Conversations about why/how about shortness of breath I want to make sure my family is OK! Conversations about Wills, POA's, executor support What does dying look like? Conversations about natural death vs Medical Assistance in Dying
